We’re super excited to announce that we’ve achieved B Corp status! But wait… What exactly is a B Corp?
B Corps are for-profit businesses that have made a commitment to creating a material positive impact on society and the environment through their operations. Companies like ours certify as a B Corp by completing the B Impact Assessment, which is then scored and independently verified by B Lab.
B Lab’s focus is building powerful examples of businesses that give the same rigour to their social and environmental impact as they do to their financial returns. We believe B Lab’s work is an opportunity to make a difference at scale – and maybe even reinvent the role of business in society!
At Wanderlust Life, nature is our constant inspiration, so we’ve always been determined to develop practices that preserve and promote the environment. And because we design and make our jewellery to carry intention, meaning and spirit, the happiness and wellbeing of our producers and makers is intrinsic to our work and to our products. With these factors underpinning our business ethos, we decided to embark on our B Corp journey back in June 2023.
Sustainability and the importance of people and the planet in our business culture and practices have been fundamental within our company DNA since the business started over 10 years ago. During the B Corp assessment, it was reassuring to find we were already reaching a lot of the criteria and didn’t need to change many of our existing processes. For us, it was a case of collating evidence along the way of processes that already exist. We had to prove our commitments across five pillars – social, governance, workers, community, customers and environment – which took us 12 months from start to finish.
So what’s next? Our aim is to continue to improve our supply chain transparency through greater engagement with our suppliers and our new supplier code of conduct. We’ll continue to develop strategies to reduce and offset our emissions through verified reputable projects, and get feedback through surveys from our stakeholders to help shape how we operate our business.
We’re always looking for new ways to reduce waste and overconsumption. On top of our new recycling scheme, we’re exploring rental services and pre-loved collections. In the immediate, we’ll be raising a toast to our team for all of their dedication and hard work throughout the process and celebrating our B Corp status. We feel incredibly proud to be part of a community of 8,200 Certified B Corporations across over 160 industries in more than 96 countries around the world who are working to harness the power of business as a force for good.
