Purpose: To fulfil your order we process payments, ship products, manage returns and customer service

To send you marketing communications that we think you will be interested in

Direct Marketing

Purpose: We would like to keep in touch with you via email, social media, search advertising and post to tell you about our latest products, news, promotional offers and events. 

Lawful basis: We will only send you direct marketing communications if you have provided your consent, or we have a legitimate interest in doing so and you have not opted out. 

Email

Purpose: We would like to keep in touch with you via email to tell you about our latest products, news, promotional offers, loyalty program and events.

Lawful basis: We rely on your consent to send you information about our products and services by email, or we have a legitimate interest in doing so and you have not opted out. 

There are several ways you might have given consent, for example:

  • you have purchased products from us online and you have not opted out of receiving email marketing on the web check out page.
  • giving your details to the Wanderlust Life team in our Shop and explicitly telling them you want to receive emails
  • using an online form
  • entering a competition and consenting to receiving emails

You can withdraw your consent at any time by emailing info@wanderlustlife.co.uk or by clicking on “unsubscribe” in the emails we send to you. We remove or suppress marketing contacts after 24 months of inactivity (where there has been no opens, clicks or purchases).

Meta and Google Advertising

Purpose: With the consent of visitors to our website, we use cookies, tags and other tracking technologies on our website to better understand the content that visitors are most interested in. This, in turn, allows us to optimise the effectiveness of our online advertising campaigns and ensures that you’ll see adverts from us online that are better targeted to your interests.

We use Meta Business Tools, including the Meta pixel which enables us to advertise to you on Meta platforms, facebook & instagram. We use Meta Advantage+ to personalise your experience. This automated system uses data we share to display ads that are relevant to your interests, optimize ad delivery, and improve our marketing performance.

Automated Decision Making & Profiling

Purpose: We want to send you direct marketing communications that we think you’ll find interesting. To achieve this end, we use profiling to help us tailor your experiences and the communications we send to you.

Profiling means using automated data processing to evaluate aspects of an individual. We use Klaviyo to analyse browsing, behaviours, preferences, purchasing behaviour or location so that we can show relevant product recommendations, personalise communication and marketing automation and deliver relevant and timely advertising. There are no other consequences of the profiling activities we conduct.

  • Automated Processing: Using algorithms to filter, sort, and group customers based on specific criteria.
  • Evaluating Personal Aspects: Creating segments based on behaviors (e.g., "opened 3 emails"), preferences (e.g., "clicked a specific product link"), or location.
  • Predictive Analytics: Using features like Predictive Analytics (CLV, churn risk) or AI, which directly predict future behavior. 

Lawful basis: We rely on legitimate interests to conduct profiling activities. By this we mean that it is necessary for our organisation to focus our marketing efforts in ways that will have the most relevance and impact, so long as this doesn’t detrimentally affect your rights and freedoms.

To monitor and improve our services 

Purpose: we use cookies, tags and other tracking technologies on our website to:

  • Operate our website
  • Remember preferences
  • Analyse traffic and performance
  • Deliver relevant advertising

  • Legitimate interests (to grow our business responsibly and improve customer experience)

To meet legal and financial obligations

Purpose: Accounting, tax compliance, fraud prevention
Lawful basis: Legal obligation

Financial records are retained for a minimum of 6 years in line with UK tax requirements.

We use trusted third-party providers to operate our business:

  • Payment providers: Shopify Payments, Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Klarna, Virtue. 
  • Email marketing provider: Klaviyo
  • Reviews: Klaviyo Reviews
  • Quiz: Octane AI
  • GDPR consent management: Pandectes 
  • Loyalty programme platform: Smile
  • Analytics provider: Google Analytics 4 (GA4), Microsoft Clarity, Microsoft Adevertising
  • Advertising platform: Meta, Google 
  • Accounting software: Xero
  • Delivery partners: Royal Mail and selected courier services

These providers process personal data on our behalf and are contractually required to do so securely and in accordance with UK GDPR.


5. How we keep your data safe 

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including:

  • Secure website encryption (SSL)
  • Restricted access to systems
  • Secure third-party providers
  • Password protection and access controls

 

6. How long we keep your data 

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary:

  • Order and financial records: minimum 6 years
  • Marketing contacts: suppressed after 24 months of inactivity
  • GA4 user-level analytics data: 14 months
  • Customer service enquiries: up to 24 months

We regularly review and securely delete data that is no longer required.

 

7. Transfers outside of the UK 

Some of our providers (including Shopify, Klaviyo, Smile, Google and Meta) may process personal data outside the United Kingdom.

Where this occurs, appropriate safeguards are in place, such as:

  • UK International Data Transfer Agreements (IDTA)
  • Standard Contractual Clauses
  • Transfers to countries recognised as adequate by the UK government


8. Your rights relating to personal data 

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the information we hold about you

  • Withdraw consent
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)

Rectify any inaccuracies
 You have the right to ask us to make changes to your data if you believe that what we do hold is inaccurate. For example, you can contact us if you’ve recently moved house so we can update our records.

Request erasure`
You have the right to ask us to delete your personal data under certain circumstances such as:

• when we no longer need your data for the reasons we originally collected it 

• you withdraw your permission for us told it when consent was the original lawful basis
• when we’re compelled by law to erase it

There may be circumstances in which we are required to retain some personal data
 for example in defense of a legal claim or to meet our legal/regulatory obligations. Please see “How long we keep your data” for more information.

Restrict processing
 You have the right to ask us to stop using your data for specific purposes.

Object to processing
You have the right to object to us using your data for purposes like direct marketing and profiling.

Data Portability
 You have the right to ask us to transfer your personal data to another organisation.
