After the rush of December, January has its own kind of calm. It's a chance to reset, take stock and ease into the year ahead.
This season is all about balance: braving the cold, then warming up again. Sea dips followed by saunas. Fresh air followed by firelight. Because we all know it’s in those simple contrasts that comfort feels most rewarding, it’s the warmth we make for ourselves.
This month, we’re leaning into self love in all its forms: ritual, rest, reflection and the small luxuries that nurture us from the inside out. From self love classics to grounding rituals, here are a few ways to care for yourself - body, mind and spirit - as the new year unfolds
BLOWIN' HOT AND COLD
COLD: THE SEA DIP
One of the best things you can do for body and mind. Go steady in January though - it’s bracing, to say the least. Wetsuits welcome, warm layers essential. Always plan your exit and soak up that post-dip high.
HOT: SAUNA
The hottest thing we can think of - literally. Paired with cold therapy, it’s a treat for all the senses. Saunas are popping up everywhere right now (we’ve had three new ones in North Devon alone this year).
COLD: GET OUTDOORS
(when you don’t want to)
When it’s grey, wet and generally grim, getting outside is the ultimate reset. Fresh air, flushed cheeks, clear head - proof that the hardest step is just opening the door (and putting on the right layers).
HOT: HUG FROM THE INSIDE OUT
After the cold comes the comfort - the small rituals that warm you through. A good book, a glowing candle, your softest TBCo blanket. Pure, simple joy.
COLD: A BRISK MORNING WALK
Getting out first thing, even just for a few minutes, and it’s hard to deny the effects. Morning light helps reset your body clock, lift your mood and ground you for the day ahead. The perfect time to think, or not think at all.
HOT: A BETTER BREW
It’s an exciting time to rethink your morning cup, there are so many new blends designed to do good and taste even better. Try swapping your usual coffee for matcha, cacao, or chai and turn it into a moment to slow down and savour. You might just find a new favourite….
