Hidden Gems
Craving a wild and windswept wintery getaway? A big misconception of coastal towns is that they’re just for summertime. Arguably the most healing weather can be in the form of moody misty skies, bracing blustery winds, and invigorating icy waters.
Our shop and studio are just minutes from some of the UK’s most beautiful coastline. Turn a visit to our shop into a soul-curing getaway with these seasonally-inspired hidden gems. They say smooth seas never made a skilled sailor, after all…
SEA DIP + SAUNA
One of our favourite ways to spend an autumnal day. Reward yourself after cold water immersion at high tide Saunton Sands with a trip to the Sea Sauna, a woodfired Nordic pod with an uninterrupted view of the ocean. Sessions start at £10.
COASTEERING
Enjoy the coastline as you scramble over and swim alongside it. Expect incredible scenery, wildlife and lots of jumps into the sea. Small sessions from £45 with kit included from North Devon Coasteering.
BELLYBOARDING
The summer may be over but the waves are not! The wooden precursor to the boogie board is an English institution. Borrow from Saunton Surf Hire or pick one up in our Braunton-based shop (and don’t forget your wetsuit! It’s chilly out!)
SMOKE ON THE WATERS, ATHERINGTON
Picture a smokehouse deep in the heart of Texas, then switch your focus to North Devon. Those in the know head here at weekends for the best barbecue in all the land.
PUBS PUBS PUBS
Nothing beats a Sunday roast after a storm-lashed stomp. We’re spoilt for choice in North Devon! Check out The Rock or Kings Arms in Georgeham, the Blue Ball or the Black Venus on Exmoor, and Duck Dive or The Williams Arms in Braunton. HEAVEN.
HEARTBREAK HOTEL, BRAUNTON
Only a short stroll from our shop and our pick for speciality coffee. The rotating menu of donut flavours? Nothing short of dreamy. Now open seven days a week, 8am-2pm.
CROW POINT TO SAUNTON SANDS
Walk from Crow Point to Saunton Sands to get your steps in, then finish with a dose of healthy hedonism at Source Spa. Featuring prosecco, indoor and outdoor pools and a thermal suite, twilight sessions start at £50.
BROWNSHAM TO BLACKCHURCH ROCK
Walk from Brownsham National Trust car park to the pebble beach at Blackchurch Rock. Check tide times first, and keep your eyes peeled for views of Lundy Island. The Farmers Arms in nearby Woolsery is a top choice for lunch.
LEE BAY TO BULL POINT LIGHTHOUSE
An undulating walk that takes in rocky shores, woodland, fields, rugged coastlines and a fun old pub called the Grampus Inn, where you can reward yourself with a refreshing beverage and maybe a board game by the fire.
