Daily Sea Dips
Laughter may be the best medicine, but according to marine biologist Dr. Wallace J. Nichols, water runs a close second. In his the bestselling book Blue Mind, Nichols claims that proximity to water can improve performance, diminish anxiety & produce a sense of calm. With that in mind, this summer the Wanderlust Life team decided to dive in. Here’s our list of pre- & post- oceanic dip essentials.
Swimsuit
No one’s going to judge if you wear neoprene for your initial immersions, but bare skin amps up the exhilaration factor. Be brave!
Waterproof camera
Be sure to capture proof of your watery exploits. We’re fans of the Fujifilm XP camera with Bluetooth & wireless connectivity, making it simple to push pics out to Instagram.
Thick towel
The minute you make it back to shore you’ll yearn to dry off, so position your snuggliest beach towel within easy reach. Pitch up a plastic-backed picnic blanket for relaxing on the sand & bring wool blankets to wrap up in if you’re planning to experience the sunset.
Warm clothes
Even if you enter the water on a boiling hot day, by the time you get out you’ll want warmth. Trust us on this one – load socks, pants, a cardigan, jacket, beanie & jeans into your biggest tote bag.
Isotonic beverages
Packing a tasty post-paddle drink is a good way to give yourself some incentive. A flask of vanilla chai or a bottle of beer rarely goes amiss. We’ve even been known to set up a cocktail cart in the dunes to mix margaritas.
A picnic
Your menu will depend on the time of day, so plan ahead to make your oceanside meal a memorable one. Fire up a camping stove for beachy bangers with caramelised onions & don’t forget a bar of chocolate!
Portable record player
As you sip those sundowners, set the ideal après swim ambiance with classic 45s. We can recommend Ion Audio’s Vinyl Motion, a rechargable suitcase turntable that’s up for any adventure.
