According to Rosie Underwood, certain words can spark a neurological response. In this three-part series, the integrative health coach shares the secret of using words to empower, motivate and even heal.
We’ve learned about creating a vision, following our hearts, overcoming fear and reframing our thoughts. These are a lot of concepts to keep in the front of the brain, especially when there are little things like work deadlines, diary dates and grocery lists trying their best to occupy all available mental space.
What if we had a shortcut to the bigger concepts, helping us to stay on track towards our vision in the midst of our busy days? That’s the idea behind a mantra – a little phrase to refer to again and again that sums up powerful thoughts in only a handful of letters. “Certain words can spark positive neurological effects”, Rosie affirms. “Words and their meanings have a beautiful way of planting a seed and creating meaning and sensations, (called feelings) in the body and mind.”

Harness words to help you reach your dreams
1. Sit comfortably with your eyes closed.
“Open up to the way certain words make you respond physically and the kinds of physical sensations they evoke. They tell you a story, but we have to quiet enough to listen to it”, Rosie says.
2. Pick a word that resonates with you.
As you breathe in say the word; breathe out and say the word again. Breathe in deeply, breathe out slowly. Repeat this with other words, and notice what’s happening in your body and mind.
3. When you find a word or phrase that affects and inspires you, adopt it as a mantra.
Align the word with the vision you’re manifesting, and refer back to it as you go about your day-to-day life.
