Take Five: February

Each month, we gather the little things sparking joy inside our studio. From conversations, discoveries or just little moments that catch our attention and linger. Think of it as a small collection of good things, shared human to human. No jewellery talk. Just inspiration in its simplest form.
This month, what with it being Valentine’s Day and all, we thought we’d do a Self Love special. Let’s kick it all off with a quote…

MAKER'S CHOICE
Make yourself the guest of honour in your own life. Roll out the red carpet. Pour yourself the good wine. Applaud loudly (even if it’s just in the bathroom mirror). Show up for yourself with kindness, celebrate your quirks without apology, and give yourself the same care you so freely offer everyone else. Rebel against self-doubt, mute the unkind inner narrator. And, without hesitation, believe that you’re worthy of love, attention and a little everyday magic, exactly as you are.

SAVOUR
THE ULTIMATE ROASTED SWEET POTATO
When you want something warm, nourishing, indulgent but quick, this is a great go-to. One sweet potato, roasted until soft and caramelised, then piled high with whatever feels good. No rush, no rules – just comfort in a bowl. Recipe at the bottom of this page. Best eaten curled up on the sofa, with a film on and absolutely nowhere else to be. Which brings us nicely on to….
Method:
Heat the oven to 200°C. Give your sweet potato a scrub, prick it a few times, and roast directly on the oven shelf for 45–60 minutes until deeply soft. Split it open, fluff the middle with a fork, and get piling.
Some FUN toppings we love: Greek yoghurt, olive oil and flaky salt. Tahini, lemon juice and a pinch of chilli. Butter & miso (a surprisingly good combo - read ‘Butter’ by Asako Yuzuki if you need convincing). Top with with spring onions. Cottage cheese, black pepper and toasted nuts or pesto and a handful of toasted seeds.

GAZE
Okay - we knew this month’s Gaze would be a classic comfort film. But if we suggested one, it’s highly likely you’ve already seen it, plus not everyone’s boats are floated by the same vibe. So instead, we’ve asked everyone in the Studio their number one all time favourite comfort film so we could curate the ultimate list. Save this list to come back to when you’re craving some.
Rachel ~ About Time
Meg ~ Bridesmaids
Nat ~ Harry Potter (any and all)
Fiona ~ Life Aquatic
Mary ~ Wayne’s World
Bex - Forest Gump
Tilly ~ Toy Story

DELVE
Not a grand manifesto, just a letter. From you, to you. Cosy up and write out a few honest lines about how things are going; what’s been good, what’s been a bit much. What you’re quietly proud of (even if you don’t say it out loud very often). Try not to overthink or worry about polishing. There’s something so satisfying knowing that no else will read it. When was the last time something was for your eyes only?

ROAM
GO NOWHERE IN PARTICULAR
This month’s gentle reminder: you don’t have to go anywhere in particular to just go. Step outside without a plan, a route, or a destination in mind. Let yourself wander – turn where it feels good, pause when something catches your eye, stop entirely if you fancy it. No steps to count, no pace to keep. Just you, moving slowly, noticing things you usually rush past. Sometimes the kindest thing you can do is simply let yourself roam.
