Introducing Casa Paloma: Q+A with Georgie
We take a moment with founder Georgie, to find out more about her latest creative project, Wanderlust Life’s very own vacation bungalow in our hometown of Braunton, North Devon.
What made you start?
I’ve loved Californian style since a visit to LA a few years ago, and I’ve wanted to create a Wanderlust Life living space for a while. Those two thoughts collided, and Casa Paloma was born.
Why Casa Paloma?
Ha! Well, a Paloma is one of my favourite drinks made from Tequila, grapefruit and fresh lime. It reminds me of fun, friendship, travel and good times. It’s also the most beautiful colour – a apricot terracotta, so we painted the garage and back door that shade!
Where is it?
It’s in Braunton, and pretty much equidistant from the our shop/studio and the beach! It’s a 70s monopitch bungalow, and we inherited a BEAUTIFUL palm that sits in the front yard and casts beautiful shadows in the morning sun.
How you got your ideas/inspo?
I have a coffee table book called Surf Shacks (I have both actually, there are two volumes). Its full of amazing inspiring individuals, couples and families that have created spaces for laid back coastal living all over the world. If I was ever feeling stuck in the creative process, I just delved back into the books and I’d takeaway something inspiring.
How long did it take?
We bought the house back in November and spent most of lockdown working on it, so just over seven months! Renovating a space is INTENSE, but I’ve learnt lots of new skills. I also now fully understand the saying ‘blood, sweat & tears’! It was really hard work, but the hard work did pay off! Scott’s a carpenter, so I’ve been very lucky to have someone by my side co-ordinating the build.
What are your favourite elements of the house?
Ohhh, tough! I really loved sourcing things from all over the world, but also loved working with Scott to create custom elements to the house that make it unique. I love the marble we sourced from Greece for the kitchen, and the kitchen that Scott built using lacewood.
