As December draws to a close our minds wander back over the past weeks and months, reflecting on what has tested us and what we have achieved. We look back at material that has inspired us to be better, create more and inspire others. As well as reflect, we also look forward to upcoming trends, destinations and material we feel is going to shape the new year for us.
A fresh start & a chance to do things differently, we throw our energy into plans for the new shop & studio & considered how we could minimise our own environmental impact.
We’re constantly inspired by where we live & want to protect it. In February we embraced a workshop with Plastic Free North Devon and consequently removed all plastic packaging from our shop and studio. We love to get out for a long walk exploring Braunton Burrows, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Much like our own journey, walking on burrows bares no set path, you can simply wander and drop down onto the beach at any point. Cool winter air whips around our faces and just like that our notepads begin to fill up. Find Braunton Burrows
A creative process & a chance to refine what we already have. We start by collecting materials, textures and colours we love. We were excited to partner with neon signwriter Bag and Bones who brought our ideas to life with a beautiful custom sign.
We discovered Wit Loft and a host of other incredible creators when we attended Top Drawer (The UK's leading retail trade event for creative lifestyle buyers). Our ever growing Life Store features some of the best homeware, fashion, books AND botanicals & in March we added L:A bruket and PF candles, two brands that fill the shop with scents and lotions from around the world. Shop our Life Store here.
Georgie takes a road trip to Cornwall for fresh inspiration and a well deserved staycation. Here are some of the best beaches she visited.
1) Praa Sands
2) Penhale Sands
3) Porthmeor Beach.
In the midst of a heatwave as well as lots of personal and professional change we kept things in balance, taking time out for sunset surfs & sundowners.
We opened the doors to our brand new shop and studio in Braunton. The launch party saw us popping champagne corks, embracing new customers and marvelling at all the hard work that went into the interior design and planning.
We began working with the uber-talented photographer, Ash James. Having worked with Yves Saint Laurent, Cereal Magazine, Harrods and Mr Porter, we were honored to have Ash on board. Buy Cereal Magazine
We launched our Wear Kinship collection, an ensemble of handcrafted jewellery that supports the strength and unity of female friendships.
One of our favourite reads has to be ‘Everything I Know About Love’ by Dolly Alderton. A powerful and utterly relatable book that made us reflect on the Wear Kinship collection and the power of female friendships. We’re also hooked on The High Low, a news and pop culture podcast by Dolly Alderton and Pandora Sykes.
We spent the summer on Barricane beach wearing Bimby and Roy bikinis (now available in our Life Store) and soaking up the warm weather. Afterwork evening summer surfs were commonplace, Georgie even got the Wanderlust Life logo branded on her custom Gulf Stream surfboard.
Accompanying our balmy evenings spent sipping aperols were the effortlessly cool sounds of Litany. This album was played on repeat as we waded into the sea at sunset.
Crisp and zesty citrus with a coconut note and a hint of cardamom. Wild gorse is in abundance during the summer in Devon and Laboratory Perfumes managed to capture and bottle this scent perfectly. We now stock their beautiful perfumes in our Life Store.
We celebrated our first Wanderlust Life wedding & took some time out to re-set with a retreat before the nights started to draw in.
Taking to the Amalfi coast to celebrate the marriage of Becky & Matt, we explored the sights, smells and tastes of Italy. A Capri boat trip saw us floating on the azure blue waters and soaking in the sunshine.
In the studio we evoked those special sun drenched days end & refusing to acknowledge the seasonal change with Becky’s wedding playlist on repeat.
We sponsored the premier of ‘Kissed by God’ to bring it to the North Devon - supporting a cause close to our hearts, as team member Emily was fundraising for physio for JoJo, her daughter who has Prader-Willi Syndrome. Kissed by God is an utterly compelling watch following the life of three-time world champion surfer Andy Irons and his struggles with bipolar disorder and opioid addiction.
A craving for new inspiration, detox and time out was satisfied by a beautiful retreat with our lovely friends at Bayfitness in France this Autumn. Wanderlust Life team member Becky & her partner Andrew spend the autumn hosting retreats in Devon, France & Portugal. This retreat gave Georgie & Jen a chance to rejuvenate, regenerate, re-energise, relax, all whilst being healthy (ish).
We collectively read both ‘Milk & Honey’ and ‘The Sun & Her Flowers’ by Rupi Kaur and poured over every one of her poems.
We can’t escape the seasonal shift, but taking time to create, make, listen & spend time together in the studio helps us survive the short midwinter days & remain mindful about the festive rush.
Turning back time. Clocks went back and we cosied into our new studio. Wanderlust Life became the exclusive UK stockist of The Horse Accessories.
Cosied up in our new studio, we unwound to husky sounds of Ray Lamontagne.
We launched our latest Nomad collection, inspired by, the modern wanderer. This collection took us back to the very reason we started Wanderlust Life, which is our love of travel. It has inspired us to think about fluid working and being able to travel and get inspiration.
Amy was channeling her inner Wes Anderson when she took a trip to Paris and spent the weekend photographing beautiful little eateries and gorgeous pastel coloured architecture.
We’re a creative collective of makers in & out of the studio, through out December Becky @soco_home & Jodie @made_by_jodie have been showcasing their work at fairs.
David Attenborough’s ‘Dynasties’ has had us hooked this season and got us thinking about how we can further help save our planet. We are also now stocking Elementum Magazine, a collectable journal of new writing and visual arts that explores the natural world and our place within it.
Jodi Kidd and Geri Halliwell discovered our understated & minimal jewellery. This is the sign of good things to come.
The Year Ahead
We are setting our intentions for 2019 & are still very much riding the wave of self love and care.
We will be starting the year with an event at TriYoga, a well being centre that combines the three key elements of yoga, Pilates and treatments. We will be wearing and talking about our chakra collection. If you can’t make it our Life Store has plenty of tools to help you get ready for 2019, write your own do list in a beautiful notebook, seek inspiration in the Do Books, or try the new School of Life Products.
In February we are losing Amy to her own wanderlust, she’ll be wintering in LA, Hawaii & Bali & taking Wanderlust Life to New Zealand where she’ll be exploring opportunities to work as a modern nomad, follow Amy on @amychapple__photography as she documents her year of travel.
We are pleased to reveal a new style for spring! We will be launching Birthstone rings & we can’t wait to mark the arrival of Helen’s first baby in February with this lovely gift.
