Byron Bay Shoot | Behind the scenes with Kate + Kat

KAT PARKER - PHOTOGRAPHER
Kat is a Sydney based lifestyle photographer, and has worked with some brands including Free People & Surfstitch. We love her minimalistic style, and have been huge fans for a while, so it’s been amazing to collaborate with her on this project.

We’ve followed her work for a while now via Instagram. Kat’s profile will take you on a visual journey never too far from the ocean – with clean lines, symmetry and an evocative, travel-inspired style, enough to give us all some serious wanderlust…

TELL US A LITTLE MORE ABOUT YOU - WHERE ARE YOU BASED & WHAT DO YOU DO?
I am a photographer and content creator based in a little town called Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia. Bondi is a pretty unique place. It’s only 15 or so minute drive (depending on the traffic) to the city, yet it feels like a small coastal town. Bondi is a super creative community of inspiring people who love living by the sea.

CAN YOU DESCRIBE A TYPICAL DAY?
I normally start my day by doing a 15-minute yoga/stretching session at home via an app called Yoga Studio, followed by walking my dog. After my morning routine, I get a strong coffee and start my work day. In terms of work, I might be either shooting that day, or in pre or post-production stages of a shoot, which involves many hours in front of the computer, scouting out locations and other organisational/admin stuff. Then by the afternoon, I try to end the day with a sunset surf or swim, followed by another 15-minute yoga/stretching session before bed. Then it’s Netflix and chill out time!

WHICH LOCATION DID YOU CHOOSE FOR THE SHOOT, AND WHY?
For this shoot, we chose Wategos up in Byron Bay. It is a magical little spot tucked away in an amphitheatre shaped valley near the tip of Cape Byron. It is one of my favourite beaches in Byron Bay.

WHICH PHOTO IS YOUR FAVE?
I love the ones of Kate standing by the pandanus tree. These are so iconic for that area they always remind me of home.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE PIECE OF JEWELLERY FROM THE COLLECTION?
I love the Mohave Turquoise Necklace and the one that I love from our shoot on Kate is the black spinel necklace and earrings – absolutely beautiful.

THIS SHOOT WAS INSPIRED BY THE ESSENCE OF A WANDERLUST LIFE. WE KNOW YOU LOVE TO TRAVEL, CAN YOU SHARE YOUR TOP THREE TRAVEL DESTINATIONS?

My top three destinations so far would be…
1. New Zealand 2. California 3. Canada

WHERE IS NEXT ON YOUR WANDERLUST WISH LIST?
I am off to Paris for a wedding in July. We’re planning to do a bit of a surfing road trip through Spain, Portugal and France which I am super excited about. Also want to try and get to Denmark and Sweden as well.

TELL US A LITTLE MORE ABOUT YOU - WHERE ARE YOU BASED & WHAT DO YOU DO?
Hello! I live in Byron Bay - which is a beautiful coastal town in northern NSW. I am a naturopath and nutritionist, as well as owning an organic tea company called Mayde Tea.

CAN YOU DESCRIBE A TYPICAL DAY?
I usually start with a dip in the ocean and some yoga. Then a big brekky and off to work. Every day is so different! I am mostly concentrating on the tea business at the moment so every weekday is spent in the warehouse. I usually practice yoga in the afternoon if I didn’t in the morning, or I’ll go surfing. My favourite yoga studio up here is called Creature Yoga.

WHICH LOCATION DID YOU CHOOSE FOR THE SHOOT, AND WHY?
We chose Wategos Beach, because it’s clearly the most beautiful place! It’s a perfect visual representation of this beautiful place I call home.

THIS SHOOT WAS INSPIRED BY THE ESSENCE OF A WANDERLUST LIFE. WE KNOW YOU LOVE TO TRAVEL, CAN YOU SHARE YOUR TOP THREE TRAVEL DESTINATIONS?
My favourite place I’ve ever been to is Denmark. It is full of beautiful friendly people, healthy food and the landscape is breathtaking.
Bali is my favourite place to have a little solo escape, and the south coast of NSW where I grew up is so amazing to get away to. My family is there still, it has quiet beaches with bright white sand and crystal clear water.

WHERE IS NEXT ON YOUR WANDERLUST WISH LIST?
India! I am going to volunteer as a naturopath in a hospital over there. After that I’d love to see the rest of the Scandanavian countries and Vietnam.

WHICH PHOTO IS YOUR FAVE?
I really like the one of me sitting on the rock. I think the lighting is beautiful, it was early morning and the water behind me is so still and peaceful.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE PIECE?
I have worn my Malachite necklace every single day since receiving it, and I get comments on it every single day!
