Behind The Scenes | wear kinship Photoshoot

If you follow us on Instagram you may have noticed we recently shot our latest collection - wear kinship. Today we’re going behind the scenes to take a closer look at how we created each look and the message behind our new designs.

Let’s meet the team…

UK photographer Ash James, has worked with some of our favourite brands and publications, including Yves Saint Laurent Cereal Magazine, Mr Porter & Kinfolk Magazine to name but a few. His minimal, clean and contemporary aesthetic struck a chord with us, and we knew he would be the perfect photographer to capture our new collection. Follow his work on Instagram or view his portfolio of travel, lifestyle & still life work.

Introducing our vivacious and ever-inspiring model, Jess Greaves. Not only is Jess a massive advocate and role model for body positivity she is also a passionate photographer and artist herself. Jess’s inherent talent for modeling and image making became clear from shot one and we are so glad to have her as the face of our campaign. Read Jess's Kinship Anthology Q&A

Hair Stylist Charlotte Bott, from Salt Hair Studio in Braunton worked on the hair. She is also part of the Tigi Collective team, creating the Tigi creative & educational team across the UK.

Our in-house team is a talented crew with many strings to their bow, and our Studio Manager Becky is also a trained MUA.

Rebecca styled our shoot. We worked with brands including Palm Swimwear, Bimby & Roy (who we now stock in store!) and Love Stories (from our Exeter stockist Lorna Ruby) to create a number of different looks to celebrate the female form.

Art Direction
Founder Georgie used her creative eye to develop the overall look and feel to our most recent shoot. Her attention to detail meant that everything from the lighting to the finite model details was perfectly executed; capturing the story behind our purposeful and empowering story.

Shoot Day | SS18

Finally, the highly anticipated morning arrived; with coffees in hand we start laying out model outfits, shot lists and props. Thanks to our amazing team we are more than prepared for each setup but that didn’t diminish any pre-shoot nerves! Ash arrives, Jess arrives and the stage is set for something truly magical. We have all worked tirelessly over the past few months preparing for this day and to have something tangible in front of us feels incredibly rewarding.

The hair and makeup team get to work creating the minimal and feminine look we want to achieve within the parameters of our colour palette. Becky created a natural, warm and fresh-faced look, and used some of her go-to products, including:

Face: Mac Face & Body
Highlighter: Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal
Eyes: Mac Paint Pot Eye Colour in Groundworks
Cheeks: Daniel Sandler Watercolour Blush in Rose Glow

Whilst Jess is in hair & make-up, Ash adjusts his camera and lighting set up. The jewellery is suddenly brought to life! We spend hours crafting each piece in our hands but it is a totally different experience to see each how the chains sit and the gems catch the light. Look one is well underway and look two is ready and waiting.

We were incredibly lucky to have the support from some of our favourite brands for this shoot who provided us with some gorgeous pieces from their own collections. Bimby & Roy, an Australian based underwear brand sent over some beautifully delicate intimates which we paired with a loose blouse and the Stella Prism Necklace from our new collection. The entire team were obsessed with their timeless designs and fell in love with the fact they were underwire free, comfy and so versatile (you can sleep & swim in them!). So much so, that we now stock their pieces in store.

Lunchtime. We take 5 to devour some food and take a well-earned rest from shooting. We start chatting about the intentions behind this collection and how we landed on this concept. Female empowerment has always been important to Wanderlust Life but we really want to refine and define this in our latest collection. Each piece of jewellery was created to be a keepsake to remind us of the power and strength we have together as women. This collection is a contemporary take on childhood friendship bracelets and encourages women to reach out and champions other women around her.

One location change and a few outfits later we are on the last look of the day. Jess is wearing a fortis gold chain necklace in black spinel £64 We are totally in love with this minimal look and are so happy to share the new collection with you.
